Our Products
We produce Standard CMU in a vast array of shapes and sizes – including hundreds of varieties, plus solids and screenwall.
We also manufacture Architectural CMU in a series of distinct textures and colors. This enables a multitude of expressive combinations for you to choose from in bringing character to your design. We can even match our products to a physical color sample that you provide.
We are equipped and positioned to supply Ready-Mix Products – including concrete, masonry grout and flowable fill – from our strategically-located facilities to your construction project. We’re also FDOT approved. You can choose from standardized mixtures or speak with our technical specialists to customize a mixture for your needs.
We produce three distinct series of Retaining Wall systems: Trinity, Versa-Lok, and Verti-Block. Each series comes with unique features and properties that benefit certain applications. They also come in a selection of styles to match your taste. Our product specialists are able to help you choose the right system and style for your project.
We are approved by the state of Florida to produce Precast and Prestressed lintels, sills, and other specialized units that meet industry standards and building codes. Our product specialists can help match the right product to your need.
Our Story
In 1952, Anthony “Red” DaCato and his wife, Ida, moved to Orlando and were determined to start a business. Shortly afterwards, A-1 Block Corporation was founded. Red and two employees would split their weekdays between manufacturing and delivering concrete block, while Ida would spend her days bookkeeping from her car. Their operation was rife with challenges as they started without an office and without air-conditioning in the Florida heat. Yet, this successful team worked together for over fifty-two years, and through hard work and perseverance, they managed to grow and expand the business – adding five operating facilities, advanced equipment, and additional staff.
Today, the company is managed by the third generation of the family with eight locations throughout Central Florida, including Sanford, Orlando, and Tampa. We value family, hard work, and perseverance; It’s who we are. Click the video below for a glimpse into our past and legacy:
Timeline
1952 - Orlando, FL: Anthony "Red" DaCato and his wife, Ida, form the A-1 Block Corporation along with two employees. Red manufactures and delivers block while Ida does bookkeeping from her car with the absence of air conditioning or an office.
A ready-mix plant is added to the South Division Avenue facility in Orlando.
